Simone's Lockdown Poem

Last week we looked at the poem Still I Rise by Maya Angelou. Simone adapted it to our current situation - what a clever idea!

Lockdown
You may lock me in the house
With your germs doubling in size
You may shut down all the stores
But still, like the sun, I’ll rise.

Just like planes and like clouds,
With the pushing of the sky
Just like trees growing
Still I’ll rise

Did you want to see me anxious?
Trembling, tense, and tired?
Sensing impending danger,
Sleeping less than required?

You may crush us with your rules,
Staying two metres apart is advised.
You may tell us to wear masks
But still, like bread, I’ll rise.

Leaving behind a confined space
I rise
Unleashed from the confusing cage
I rise
Hanging out with friends again
I’m having fun and now I’m sane
I rise
I rise
I rise

ANZAC and Art

Isabella's poppies

ANZAC day lockdown poem
By Adelle

It is only when i walk outside i feel sadness “ hardly anyone was awake
 To  celebrate ANZAC”
It is only when my dad plays the trombone i feel a pinch of happiness as
I sat down in the driveway.
It is only when i see two people  walking toward us i then know how much
My street has changed.
It is only when I walk up a hill I hear the sound of trumpets playing in the
distance I realise some do care about ANZAC.

The Thought Fox

This morning we talked about and tried to understand The Thought Fox by Ted Hughes. It is actually about not knowing what to write - I'm sure you can all relate to that! Here are a few of the poems I have received so far. Keep up your great learning team!

Staring down into a wite abyss
Ready but realising my train of thoughts left the station without me
My mind is falling endlessly
But my body is still

Disaster in the air
Reaching helplessly for the keys
I stumble upon a wall
Horrible thoughts cross my mind

An idea upon me
As the wall starts to crumble
Light has awoken
Now i stare at a full page

           By Louis

Simone
Looking through the window
I see an array of colours
A blanket of clouds
Shield my thoughts .

A hole tears open the fabric
enveloping me
I am plunged into a thick mist
Confused and alone.

I fall ,and I fall,never landing
Hands reach out full of keys
But none of them open my mind
It is still locked.

In the doorway a light flickers
Panic and haste take control
Suddenly from deep in the mist

A light bulb appears.

The Fox
Maddy Cogle

Staring above on a starless sky,
The lights come, but flicker away
The common halts create an abyss of sorrow in the depths of my mind.
I walk on, longing for some sort of perception.

Urgency begins to overflow
lack of light becomes antagonizing,
I fall, I land on a track.
Before me lay two paths
One is blank, the other is packed with stars, on an inky sky.

There is no way out, I am forced to make a decision.
But I don't,
I pull out my book,
And begin to write.

My thoughts Samantha Foote
I imagine darkness
Where happiness is lost
Leading me away
And disappearing.
My thoughts overpower the past
As lies are unleashed
Eddying to the ground
They call for help.
My memories fly wild
As they fall apart
I wonder
As it forces me to run.
Enveloping me into an abyss
Rays of light
pierce through the clouds
As I wait for the future.

Inquiry Sharing

This afternoon we had a great Inquiry share with the majority of our pod. We began by listening to Chloe share her findings with her yeast experiment. We found out that yeast is alive and is reactive. Joseph then explained the process of bread making and what happens during this. He talked about CO2 being given off. Felicity told us that the C stands for carbon and the O stands for oxygen and there are two of these. What a great chemistry lesson! Leroy told us all that we also breathe our CO2 and our trees and other plants absorb this. This is part of a process called respiration.

I have highlighted some of the great words we used. We can't wait to hear more about your Inquiry learning next week - keep up the fabulous learning team!

Writing Task #1

Below are a couple of super examples of the writing that our students worked on today for their first writing task. I'm sure you will be impressed by the use of creative language, as well as the pictures that are created in your heads. Well done Tom, Joseph and Charlotte for sharing your writing today.

Tom
Whizz, a bright light of silver shot past the window pane.  The little child slipped out of bed and strolled over to the window.

She looked out over a moonless cloudy sky, with the great cloud mountains whirling mysteriously in the night air.   She could just see the small bright white light shooting through the sky like a knife cutting open the clouds. She stayed sentry.  Looking into the vastness, she saw things no one had ever seen before. In the dangerous night ride she saw a large bat-like creature coming down from the great cloud mountains, it uttered a few melancholy cries and then dove back into the darkness.  What you should know about her house is that it's one of those large inflatable blimps.

‘’Come back to bed child, it's 3 a.m’’.  She rushed back to bed without looking again out of the window, if she did she would have seen the bright white ray of light coming closer and closer and closer until the scorching heat filled the entire blimp with its boiling madness, and burst into flames.

The beasts.
Joseph

The noise woke me with a start. I could hear voices filled with anger. I pulled off the covers and ambled over to the window. The moonlight enveloped me, I peered out and that’s when I saw… the fight of two beasts!

I hesitated, fighting my own mind, “Is this a dream?” No, it couldn’t be, the scales were too real, glaring down at me. The beasts  fangs pierced through skin, their talons as sharp as rage, ripped off flesh. Then both their heads turned…

One of the beasts let out a roar. Anger rippled down their scales. They had not wanted to be disturebed.. The other beast opened its mouth and a wave of flame danced into the sky. Then both beasts turned down and propelled themselves forwards into the clouds, nesting a hole in the center of them.all in the blink of an eye they were gone.

A secret smile escaped me as I walked back to my bed and wandered off into a sleep.

The midnight beast
                                                      By Charlotte Campbell

It seemed like a normal night however, little did the girl know that what was going to happen next would change her life...

The stars sparkled, and everything seemed normal, but the girl knew that something wasn't
right. Suddenly a huge burst of light flooded into the room, she shielded her eyes.
As the light faded the girl heard a soft wail, she felt like it was hypnotising her,
slowly the girl started to walk towards her bedroom window. The wail became louder, and louder. The girl heard the piercing crash as she tumbled through the window.

The girl screamed as she fell into certain death, suddenly she landed on the hard but furry body, her eyes widened in shock when she saw what had saved her, it was a creamy white Pegasus!
Is this "real?" she murmured as the Pegasus flew her over the clouds. The Pegasus landed at the girl's balcony, the girl took one last look at the Pegasus before the it flew away, never to be seen again.

Naked Eggs!

Check our Simone's cool science experiment. Days 1, 2 and 7! The egg felt slimy and squishy like a water balloon and you could see the yolk inside.

Science, Sewing and Trampolining

For today's learning we have a marshmallow catapult and mini coats sewn for mini horses! We are blown away by the creativity of our families.

Chloe made a template

Then sewed

The decorated the coats

Yes, Jai tried to catch the marshmallow from Sitara's catapult!
And here is Alice on her trampoline!
