Shakespeare with Year 6s!

This morning our Year 6s were pushed incredibly hard when learning about the patterns involved in Shakespeare's sonnets. We learnt that they had to have 14 lines, each line has 10 syllables and were also written in an Iambic Pentameter rhythm that has feet! We worked really hard bouncing ideas off each other to try to make sure each line of our shared poem had 10 syllables - this was the hardest - Simone and Rosa got particularly frustrated! But we didn't give up and we wrote this together! Aren't we amazing?

A seed of life is planted in a void

Fragile, innocent, not knowing dangers

Emerging from a cocoon of darkness

A shield is broken, letting the light in

Sprouting petals of colour and beauty

Spreading happiness and joy to the world.

But deep inside a longing grows for more

Joy replaced and greed is released throughout

Nothing stands in its way as it terminates

Emotions wither and fear consumes all

Rapidly increasing, everything wilts

Until all is lost and darkness takes over

A loud cacophony of emptiness

Is silenced by the conductor of death.
