This morning we spent over an hour talking about discrimination in its many forms after watching this video. Almost everyone had their hands in the air wanting to add their opinions, it was quite inspiring.
Following this our Year 5s watched a poem from a young lady in NZ which inspired their writing, while the Year 6s learnt about Native American history.
Below is a picture of some of the words that came into our discussion, as well as a copy of our shared writing. Katie used a wonderful sentence, "The awkwardness of silence". This was why we talked.
Thanks , Mrs Saxon and Miss Perry , for teaching us about racism , equality , discrimination , stereotypes and many other things , like how to stop it. Have a nice weekend. Simone
ReplyDeleteThat was a really good idea to bring this out. It has made me learn things i didn't know, the poetry was fun as well. The lesson has taught me that we should be keeping more awareness of this and not just let it drift by our heads, we should also be more kind because everybody has differences and it doesn't mean we can bully people about it, after all, they are just people and so are we.
ReplyDeleteIt was great that we learnt about racism, discrimination, stereotypes, fairness, many other things and how to stop this happening. It was interesting learning about the Native Americans and year 5's wrote a great poem.
