Matariki Assembly

This afternoon Simone and Emma represented us during our Matariki assembly. They read their stunning poems in front of a large audience. Congratulations!

Korfball Tournament

On Tuesday we held our Year 5/6 Korfball tournament. The students in all three pods were mixed to make teams of 8-9, including both boys and girls. 

During the morning we have the draws with teams playing against each other. After morning tea the serious competition began  starting with the semi finals all the way to the grand finals. 

Congratulations to Red 2 who won the competition!

Year 5 Poetry

Ayana
Away, away I go
To a deserted island,
I hear the rippling of waves,
The echos of silence,
Where birds once roamed.

Away, away I go

Falling into an abyss of darkness,

Sinking through what once was

At last a faint spark,

A spark of hope.

Away, away I go

To a desolate riverside beach

Secluded from the shreds of life

Not a wimper, not a whisper

From the land below.

Away, away I go

To a land

Of disembodied souls

Their lives crumbled to dust

As they attempt

To forge a new life.

Racing down the path

The path that is wrong

That I should have known.

But then I stop,

Listening to the wind

Telling me truths

Making me think differently

A spark of hope

Begins to grow.

To an enchanted forest,

The wind whispering the magic of the forest

Trees' finger tap, tap tapping on my shoulder,

As I walk past.

The lost souls in a maze of trees,

Crying out for mercy,

As the figures just stand there

Watching their pain.

Into a tranquil opening,

Where I am enveloped

In a blanket of light

Squeezing me tight.

Only the ancients could see

All that can remain are bones

Buried under rocks from the past.

Tunnels push themselves down

Souls from the past

Slowly crushing

Desperate to find light

To them, hope is lost.

No shadows cry out

As the waves brush their feet

The foam clinging to the sand.

Form two paths

Both leading to a different future

The birds take the right one

I follow in their trail.

Across hills of mystery and wonder,

There I stand, unable to move.

The wind whistles in my ear

And pushes me forward into the mist of my future

I look behind me and see my past

There's no turning back now.

I find myself in a forest of light

I listen to the melodies of birds

The crash of the waves

And the distant whistle of the wind

Reverberating inside my head.

I come upon a tranquil clearing

Shrouded in a blanket of fog

It spreads out before me

Unfurling a forgotten path.
